In anticipation of falling trees in the rainy season, the Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency (Distamhut) cut down old trees in parts that are dangerous or commonly called pruning in five administrative city areas.
Distamhut Head, Suzi Marsitawati revealed the tree management procedure is by Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 24/2022 on Tree Management and Protection.
According to her, the main priority of pruning lies in the location of green lines or trees that are on the side or median of the road.
"When it rains heavily and there are many fallen and dangerous trees, we take various preventive measures, namely pruning trees when they are shady and dense, covering trees when trees are too tall, and felling trees when trees are dead and porous with a tree weathering rate of more than 30% and the tree tilted more than 30 degrees," she expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.
She went on to say that her agency routinely checks the health condition of trees in Jakarta, starting with the roots, stem condition, slope, to crown condition.
"Until last October, as many as 6,916 trees had been checked, especially the trees located in the green belt," she continued.
On that day, the agency had pruned trees spread across five areas of the city, with details:
